Our company’s origins

Mainardi Nicola srl srl is a historic family business in the Polesine area,founded in Lendinara in 1945 and now in its third generation.

Some years ago, the rudder passed from the hands of Angelo Mainardi to those of his sons Nicola and Lorenzo, who with enthusiasm and dedication have chosen to continue the family brand known and admired for its quality, reliability and wide range in the dried fruit and nut trade.

In recent years, the company has undergone a profound transformation, which has led to totale total renovation of the premises, expansion of the warehouse and renewal of equipment and machinery.

The countries we have historically worked with since the beginning are USA, Israel, Greece, Turkey, Iran, Egypt, . Thailand and, more recently, Chile and Australia. Our business has always been one with our suppliers, which we choose with care and with which we have established a fruitful and rewarding relationship based on three keywords: quality, professionalism and respect for agreements, but above all for people.

Israel is our first-class supplier for dates, sweet and fleshy, or for some varieties of high-quality peanuts. Turkey, on the other hand, is our land of choice for figs, especially cultivated in coastal areas, and sultanas. Figs again and fine varieties of pistachios for imports from Greece, like Iran, which we have always chosen for pistachios but also for grapes.

We never have enough peanuts, so we also import them from Egypt and the USA (how can we omit a reference to the wonderful Peanuts cartoons by Charles Schulz?). The USA is also a historical supplier of ours for walnuts, almonds, pistachios and hazelnuts. The American continent has given us another major supplier of walnuts, almonds, plums and grapes in Chile, which with its long coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean has the ideal climate for cultivating excellent varieties. To complete our tour around the world, we can’t forget dried fruit from wonderful Thailand, or walnuts and almonds from Australia, on our supplier list for a few years now.

And from Italy? Our beloved country also features in our offer, with prized Sorrento walnuts and hazelnuts from Viterbo and Avellino, among the best in the world.

Our business and certifications

The products, rigorously selected upstream arrive at our facility and are immediately subjected to our quality control, then stored in the dedicated area of almost 5,000 m² in our warehouse. Here the products are prepared for marketing or undergo an additional internal processing cycle such as roasting, salting and subsequent packaging. The products processed internally are peanuts, pistachios, cashews, almonds and hazelnuts. Increasingly attentive to quality and food safety, after organic certification we are enthusiastically following the practices for BRC/IFS certification, the International Food Standard which is particularly applicable to transforming and processing food, handling loose products and the activities carried out during first packaging.

Behind all this work there are naturally faces and names, first of all those of the three owners, Angelo Mainardi and his two sons Nicola and Lorenzo. While Angelo uses his experience to supervise and coordinate the activities, his sons pull the strings behind everyday work, with Nicola’s particular propensity for the commercial area and Lorenzo’s for production, even though the division of roles is actually very nuanced, as Nicola explains:

“We always try to work in synergy, we go to customers and suppliers together, we share the management and warehouse management choices. The solidity and harmony of family ties is one of our main levers.”

Our company can count on an average number of employees ranging from 30 to 50, in relation to the workloads that notoriously increase during the cold season.

Our customers

They are central to our business:, the evolution of our products and services is always designed to provide the best response to the needs of a constantly evolving clientele such as Retail and Large-Scale Retail, chains, for which we also produce private labels. Our historical customers are also fruit and vegetable markets, wholesalers and distributors and, through the latter, the hotel/restaurant/catering channel.
